Joint Research Seminar for Czech, German, and Polish Ph.D. Students at PF UK
Joint Research Seminar for Czech, German, and Polish Ph.D. Students at PF UK
A joint seminar for doctoral students from the law schools of the University of Regensburg, the University of Wrocław, and Charles University entitled “Aktuelle Rechtsentwicklungen in Deutschland, Polen und Tschechien 2025” was hosted by the Faculty of Law of Charles University between 9 and 11 October 2025. This event, which has become a tradition over the past few years, was first held at PF UK in 2019. After being interrupted by the pandemic, it was revived by the University of Wrocław in 2023, and last year’s edition took place at the University of Regensburg.
A record number of PhD. students gave their own presentation this year, with a total of 17 students from the three collaborating universities and many more in the audience. Members of the academic staff from all three universities also took part in the project. The presentations focused on current legal issues in Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic in all areas of law. The seminar provided a platform for academic discussion and valuable feedback on the students’ ongoing dissertation projects.
The first day of the doctoral seminar was held in the beautiful premises of the Representation of the Free State of Bavaria in the Czech Republic in Chotkův palác. The programme of the second day continued in the PF UK building.
Alongside the doctoral seminar was an additional programme for 20 pregraduate students from the University of Regensburg, who came to our Faculty as part of a project organised in collaboration with Professor Frank Maschmann. The programme included a visit to the Giese & Partner law firm, a lecture given by Professor Jan Wintr, Justice of the Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic, and a reception at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Czech Republic. A group of students from our master’s programme spent three days in Regensburg and in Munich last month as a part of this project.
We would like to thank Bayerisch-Tschechische Hochschulagentur, Repräsentanz des Freistaats Bayern, Giese & Partner, and the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Czech Republic for their financial and organisational support which made it possible for us to organise the seminar.
The event was an unqualified success – all participants appreciated the professionalism and friendly atmosphere of the seminar. We are already looking forward to the 2026 edition hosted by the University of Wrocław!
