PF UK Workshop seeks ways to reform long-term care in the Czech Republic

On 5 February 2026, a specialised workshop called  Long-Term Care in the Czech Republic 2.0? was held at the CU Faculty of Law in collaboration with the CU Faculty of Arts within the Centre for Inequality and Open Society project funded by the European Regional Development Fund. The event was supported by the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs of the Czech Republic.
The main aim of the workshop was to discuss and formulate recommendations for the direction of the long-term care policy in the Czech Republic. The workshop was attended by representatives of state institutions, self-governing bodies, non-profit organisations, and experts in the field.

The discussion revolved around the current situation and the main issues faced by the system of long-term care in the Czech Republic, focusing on how to improve collaboration between medical and social workers to create a functional and sustainable environment for care and support based on dignity. In her contribution, Professor Koldinská described some inspiring examples from abroad, in particular,  long-term care reforms in Italy and Slovenia.

The workshop also provided a platform for experience sharing and using such experience in the creation of new concepts of long-term care in the Czech Republic. The participants agreed on further collaboration in the area. An informal platform for experts from across the professions involved was created during the workshop, which will continue the discussion on this hugely important and complex issue.
