About CIOS
The main objective of the newly established Center for Inequality and Open Society at the Faculty of Law, Charles University is the creation of a cutting-edge academic hub, which will develop and support interdisciplinary research teams studying issues related to current and future challenges facing the open society. Research within CIOS will be primarily oriented towards challenges and application solutions to inequality issues, in particular in the context of technological development and innovation in goods and services markets as well as in public administration.
The position is offered within Work Package 5, which deals with legal aspects of inequality, and the resulting vulnerability of people, in relation to new technologies. The research focuses on three key aspects of vulnerability, namely vulnerability defined by the status of a person (e.g. age, ethnicity, health status), vulnerability defined by the situation in which the person finds himself (victims of international crime), and vulnerability given by the argumentative position of the person who is trying to assert his or her rights in court.
About UNCE-CPS
The University Centre for Conflict and Post-Conflict Studies carries out research in legal aspects related to armed conflict (Pillar 1) and post-conflict reconstruction of societies (Pillar 2). Under Pillar 1, the Centre examines the rules that apply to the use of armed force (ius ad bellum) and during armed conflict (ius in bello) and considers whether these rules are suitable for current armed conflicts, involving for instance the use of cyberspace, information warfare or the use of private military companies. Heed is also paid to the impact of conflicts on legal systems of third countries, e.g., the regulation of the status of so-called war refugees or criminalization of the approval of aggression. Under Pillar 2, the Centre deals with legal issues arising in the context of post-conflict reconstruction of societies. It studies the normalization of legal systems after the end of the state of emergency and transitional justice measures aimed at coping with the consequences of conflicts (criminal prosecution of perpetrators of crimes, compensation for victims, lustration, etc.).
